Arms of the Kingdom of Bohemia
OriginThe core shield of Bohemia — a crowned silver lion with two tails on red — is first documented on an equestrian seal of 1213. The crowned helm above it and the black wings sown with gold hearts are not attested by medieval sources; they come from a 19th-century reconstruction by Hugo Gerhard Ströhl.
DescriptionOn a red shield a silver lion wearing a gold crown, its tail forked in two, rears on its hind legs, and both its claws and its protruding tongue are gold. Above the shield is a helm topped by a crown, and above it and to either side spreads a large black wing-shaped ornament closely studded with gold hearts.
